These are common questions we hear day to day. This process can definitely be confusing, so this kit was specifically designed to get you rolling on your new tune as quick and efficiently as possible.

What is included in this package?

Why do I need the ECU Unlock?

In order to tune your 2023+ Civic Type R using Hondata FlashPro products, your Bosch ECU must be "unlocked" or "jailbroken" first.

What is ECU Cloning?

Want to preserve your sacred, unmodified, locked factory ECU for certain "purposes"... but also want to enjoy the fruits of reflashing and tuning your FL5 Civic Type R? We can now extract all data from your original, locked Bosch ECU and transfer that information onto another donor ECU that's unlocked and ready to flash!

You can source a donor ECU new or used. The original ECU will remain unmodified, and your clone donor ECU will be an exact copy, except unlocked and ready to plug in and do as you please. FL5 and DE5 donor ECUs are interchangeable. They can be cross cloned with no problem. 

Where do I get my donor ECU?

You will need to contact your local Honda or Acura dealer if you're wanting a new ECU. A used one is also fine. As of this moment (early December 2023, will update if this changes), the Integra Type S ECU is significantly less expensive when purchased new from an Acura dealer than the FL5 Civic Type R ECU, if available.

What do I do?

IF YOU PURCHASED CLONING:
1. Once ordered, please ship both ECUs (removed from the black plastic holder and labelled clearly as to which ECU is the original and which is the new donor to be unlocked), packaged securely to:

Be sure to include a copy of your invoice, along with your contact/return shipping information. (This is for verification purposes only, please note the ECU can only be shipped to the shipping address specified and approved at checkout.)  Shipment of the ECUs to us is your responsibility. Ensure that you protect the ECUs when packing. Pack securely, with a cushioning element of some sort, minimizing free space in the package. Take special care around the plastic connector area of the ECUs. If you would like the ECUs to be shipped back out the same day they arrive, ensure you ship to us with an option that delivers early in the business day. It is advised to require a signature to ensure we have received it. It's also wise to touch base via e-mail to ensure we are able to receive your package in the timeframe you're interested in. If your ECU is not removed from the black plastic holder, a $50 surcharge will be applied and collected for the extra labor and shipping expenses required before your ECU is returned to you. 

2. Once you receive your Hondata FlashPro, please send us an email to support@twostepperformance.com with your FlashPro Serial Number.

How long does this take?

ECU Cloning/Unlock: If it arrives early in the day (before 11AM EST), usually it can be unlocked and sent back out the same day. Some factors such as shipping speed, weather delays, weekends, or holidays may influence actual time spent in transit. Please note that once the ECU is in the carrier's hands, we are at their mercy for transit time and cannot be liable for any delays out of our control. The shipping speed selected is the return shipping cost. 

TSP Tune: Once you send us your FlashPro Serial Number, we will make your specific tune and email it to you within 3-5 business days. Please note that if the Serial Number is not sent to us, there will be a delay in the tune being sent.
