"I want to use a KTuner and it's software, but I have a Mac..."
We've got you.
This guide applies to Macs using Apple processors (M1-M4, including Pro and Ultra variants) running Windows 11 for ARM-based chipsets.
These steps have been tested on a M4 mac Mini (2024) running macOS Sequoia 15.1.1/Windows 11 version 24H2 and a M2 Pro MacBook Pro (2023) running macOS Sequoia 15.1.1/Windows 11 version 22H2.
This has been tested and verified to work with Apple MW5L3AM USB-C to USB-A adapters as well as Anker B8731 USB-C to USB-A 3.0 adapters. Most modern Macs will require a USB-C adapter.
REQUIRED SOFTWARE:
Parallels Desktop for Mac
KTuner Flash Software
REQUIRED HARDWARE:
KTuner v1.2 or v2
MacBook (preferably for mobility)
USB-C to USB-A Adapter
Internet Connection
NOTE: We have learned that some versions of Windows 11 may not require all of these steps. This guide beyond Step 4 should only be used IF your device will not connect after installing the KTuner executable package.
Step 1.
-
Open your Parallels Windows 11 virtual machine on your Mac.
-
On your Windows 11 virtual machine, open your web browser, and download the KTuner software.
-
In your browser, navigate to https://ftdichip.com/drivers/vcp-drivers/. Scroll down to the table and download the driver package for Windows (desktop) on the ARM processor architecture.
Step 2.
-
Once both packages are downloaded, relocate them to a known location such as the Desktop.
-
Unzip the driver package by right-clicking on the .zip package and selecting “Unzip all”.
-
Click “Browse” and navigate to your desktop and create a new folder. Select the new folder and click “Extract”.
Step 3.
-
Double-click on the KTuner executable and follow all on screen prompts. For the driver selections, choose “Install Latest KTunerFlash V1.2/V2 Touch Drivers Covering Windows 11” and click “Finish”.
-
Once the installer finishes, reboot your Windows 11 virtual machine from the Start menu.
Step 4.
-
Once your virtual machine has rebooted, launch the KTuner software and connect your device. You may be asked by macOS to allow the device to connect and then prompted by Parallels to allow the device to be connected to your Windows 11 virtual machine. Choose “Always Allow” to both options.
-
At this point, you should see a green “KTuner Flash connected” band under the login window. If you see a green band, there is nothing more you need to do. Your system sees the device and you can interface with it as normal. You may visit our TSP Stage Tunes Install Guide for KTuner or watch our video.
-
If you see a red band, you will need to install the drivers manually through Device Manager. Continue to step 5.
Step 5.
-
Click the Start button and type "Device Manager". Open the application, and you should see a device labeled “USB Serial Port” or “KTuner Flash” listed under “Other Devices”. A yellow exclamation mark next to the icon indicates the driver did not install properly.
-
Right click on the device and click “Update driver”. Choose “Browse my computer for drivers”, and then click “Browse”. Navigate to your desktop and select the folder you created in Step 2. Check the box for “include subfolders”, and then click “Next”. Once Windows finds the drivers and installs them, it will inform you that the installation is finished.
-
Restart your virtual machine.
Step 6.
-
Once your machine has rebooted, launch the KTuner software and connect your device following the steps outlined under step 4.
TIP: You can give your Windows 11 virtual machine priority when you connect your KTuner by going to “Devices > USB & Bluetooth > Configure” in your macOS toolbar and choosing “USB Connection Preferences...” in the window that appears. Once in the preferences window, you may need to click the lock icon to allow changes and enter your password or Touch ID. Once authenticated and the lock shows open, click the “+” icon, choose the KTuner, and it should add it to the list. You may need to click the pencil icon, then choose Windows 11 in the drop-down menu. Once this is configured, click the lock icon to commit the changes and close out of all open windows.
TIP: You can check your macOS version by clicking on the Apple in the upper left corner of your screen and selecting “About this Mac” in the drop-down menu. You can check your Windows 11 version by pressing Command + R on your keyboard while your virtual machine is running and typing “winver” into the text box.
